Neil Patrick Harris (born 1973) is an American actor who first gained note for playing the title role in Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989-1993) and more recently has appeared on Broadway, and on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, as the womanizing Barney.
Harris hosted Brian Henson in Conversation with Neil Patrick Harris at the SF Sketchfest in January 2011. The one-time-only show included an in-depth conversation between Harris and Brian Henson about puppetry and puppet comedy. Harris commented on his role as host saying: "I'm very excited about Dick Cavett-ing myself for a conversation with Brian Henson to talk all things Muppet — past, present, future. I’m a — you'll pardon the pun — gonzo fan."[1]
Harris visited the cast of Stuffed and Unstrung at the Union Square Theatre June 3, 2010[2], and had previously attended a show of Puppet Up! - Uncensored at the Avalon Thearter in Hollywood on February 28, 2009.[3]
In 2012 Harris starred in, and helped produced, the Henson Alternative webseries Neil's Puppet Dreams for the Nerdist Channel.
Harris expressed his admiration for Jim Henson, in a 2005 TV Guide column; in answering the question "Who's your all-time TV hero?," Harris stated "Jim Henson. He taught me how to be funny and how to share and communicate, and he did it all with felt and cut-up Ping Pong balls."[4]
