Gene Barretta is an illustrator, character designer, animator and author. He grew up in Yardley, PA with his brother, Bill. Barretta graduated from New York University with a BFA in Film Studies.

Barretta served as character designer on the Henson Alternative pilots for Late Night Buffet with Augie and Del and Tinseltown. He sketched the original designs for Samson, Bobby, Augie, Del, and Louisa Cappellini and her Four Course Band.
